You may be baffled by the title chosen for this piece............ I'm not! (of course, how could a writer be baffled by what he wrote?)
I had a discussion with a Nigerian friend living in SouthAfrica. This discussion centred on the 'ugly' snake that's already reared it's ugly head in the South-Western Nigeria.......especially in Lagos (where it all started).
The conversation started with me campaigning for the only opposition party in my Local Elections (the PDP), only to have my friend in SouthAfrica giving me a severe 'pushback'.
At this point, i knew he was going to need some memory-jolts to make him see that corruption (which he accused the PDP of) is not only peculiar to the party but that it's also prevalent in the party he supports.
That said, i made him realise that the only problem i have with the party is the way it disregards it's members in the sense that only one person determines every decision in their party (i wont call names but every Nigerian knows who i'm talking about, just 'google' "Action Congress of Nigeria")!
I finally intimated him on happenings within the "Local Government". How the LG chairman (something like a mayor) has gone about physically harrassing people (including two women at a night club) and also one-upping his party-chairman at the Local Government level.........even going further to taunt him in his house (and very much in the public!)
I'm not saying that the PDP is good, but at least, it's "democratic" in the sense that it tolerates "dissent".......also, it always makes sure that it holds primaries especially at the Local levels where you have to be popular to win!
I'm really looking forward to the Local Elections coming up on Saturday, the 22nd of october, 2011. (Exactly a week from this write up). A lot o' people have seen the change in their minds and want it with all their hearts! They also know that we have an option.
Oops........my title: i almost got carried away. I gave this piece this title because there have been verified stories of some 'old-men' who hitherto have been actively campaigning against the incumbent, now singing a new (bribery-induced) music of total support for him. As MSNBC's Reverend Al Sharpton will say "we've got you"! ( twitter@thereval ).
Anyway, one week from now, we shall see what prevails, "the voice of one 'tone-deaf leader' or 'the voice of the people' "..........watch this page for more posts!

CAF Palaver- Great blessing!

if u dont know by now, even South-Africa has joined those that did not qualify for the nations cup! Joining Nigeria, Egypt and Cameroun. Now let's see if the Confederation of African Football (CAF) makes any money from this stupid, financially-worthless African Cup of Nations this year. I'm not saying that these countries may not feel left out of the games and also the loss of pride but we all know that CAF'll be the greatest loser financially! It's instructive to note that this is coming on the heels of their new TV rights contracted to the company of the sons of issa hayatou and amos adamu which sees these countries being the worst losers in these contract. I just want to say that this's the greatest coincidence which CAF needs to learn from!

had a political discussion with my dad.......man, never knew he was an activist. For once in a long time, our political views are very alike. The discussion centres around the local election. If i'm going to write a communique, it'll go like this:

1. ACN has decided to take amuwoites for fools.
2. PDP has a great opportunity (only if it'll grab it!)
3. ACN members have no 'real say' inthe happenings of their party.
4. Most ACN members are aggrieved by the total disregard of the democratic tenets in the whole procedure of (s)election.
5. There is a great probability of wide-spread rigging (which will be thwarted if the eternal vigilance of prior elections is anything to go by).
6. This election will most likely reduce the strangle-hold of ACN on Lagos state by self-affliction!

Anyway, i advice that the only thing is that people must put their money where their mouth is- ETERNAL VIGILANCE IS THE PRICE OF DEMOCRACY!!!

Nigerian peculiar exceptionalism!

It's human nature! Those Nigerians who 'diss' Nigeria........they are really the ones who like the country most but have set the bar impossibly high for themselves and the country to climb. Anyone who says that Nigeria hasn't shown signs of improvement in the last eight years is not honest to himself! A South African was saying this particular thing on E-NEWS channel (a SA news station) that at the rate Nigeria is growing, if their country doesn't move faster, then it (Nigeria) may overtake them. Now i'm not saying we are where we wanna be........all i'm saying is that our independence anniversary should, no matter what, be a time of positive stock-taking, celebrating the minor achievements with the aim of redoubling our individual effort! My opinion...........i dont know 'bout U!It's human nature! my Nigerian independence day speech......

Nigeria: a nation after my own heart! We need more citizens bcos a really wise saying stated that "a country is bestowed with the kind of leadership it deserves". Hence, for as long as we deny that the problem is from us, the longer we are going to complain. I can tell you this b'cos i went thru an experience of our insensitivity to each other recently in the hands of another Nigerian......... Not going far, explain how a #10 increase in fuel price can create a 10percent hike in transportation, or increase in minimum wage create an increase in the cost of goods and services. We even praise those who steal from our treasury and 'yab' the honest ones............ brothers and sisters, we need to change. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO MY BELOVED "NIGER-AREA".......... NIGERIA, WE SHALL CONTINUE TO HAIL THEE!h the kind of leadership it deserves". Hence, for as long as we deny that the problem is from us, the longer we are going to complain. just had this conversation!

MY NEIGHBOUR'S MOM JUST COMPLAINED
THAT THERE IS GREAT IMBALANCE IN THE EMPLOYMENT LEVEL BETWEEN MALE AND FEMALE.
QUESTION: DO I BLAME THE EMPLOYERS? ANSWER: NO!
QUESTION: WHY!
ANSWER: EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF, REMEMBER? IT MEANS EVERY MAN SHOULD MAKE HIS OWN FORTUNES AND TRY HIS HAND ON BUSINESS.
IF SUCCESSFUL; EMPLOY A WOMAN WHO YOU'LL PHYSICALLY (SEXUALLY) AND MENTALLY HARASS AS IT HAPPENS RIGHT NOW IN THE INDUSTRY! PATHETIC!
